My stomach usually can't handle seeing and hearing Joe Scarborough early in the morning. So I try to avoid seeing Morning Joe before I have my own cup of Joe and maybe a cigarette.I'm not encouraging smoking, I'm just saying it's a mean combination.
Browsing the net however I couldn't resist the urge to check wich republican meme Morning Joe and his sidekick Mika where parroting these days. The last time I had seen the show was rather amusing actually they had former national security adviser Zbigniew Brezezinsky on the show glowing with fatherly pride for Mika and Giving Joe a cold shrug. So I was expecting some mean spirited cocktail of Redistrubition, Ayers and Wright talkingpoints instead the topic was actually the future of the GOP and their honoured guest: Former Massachussets Governor William Weld. Weld gets questioned on the state of the GOP now and his vision for the future GOP.
Is the Republican party in dissaray? Can the Republican party be saved? Will it be more socially conservative, more right wing or will it realign itself with more libertarian trending republicans and independents?
What do you know, all valid questions!
Video and choice excerpts below the fold, please leave your comment on the future of the Gop in the commentsection.
Former Governor Weld Endorsed Romney in the Primaries and now Endorses Obama for the Presidency. In this MSNBC video Republican Libertarian Weld starts of with comparing Romney and Obama's economic credentials and comparing them favorably. He also explains his endorsement of Obama in no uncertain terms. Then the talk turns to the future of the republican party fast.

Choice Excerpts!
cup a Joe: Well Governor, and also, about the direction of the Republican Party!Obviously, Governor you have had concern about a Southern centred Republican Party, it seems, it used to be that Red State America was in the north-east? That's where Republicans always won North East States?
What does the Republican party has to do going forward to win presidential elections again,to win in Maine,to be competitive in New Hampshire, in Massachusets, in North east States.
Abridged transcript:
Weld: Well, as you remember; Joe that the party was playing on a smaller field as it where, I gave a speach on the RNC Convention, that I want the government.... out of your pocketbook and out of your bedroom,
I was on the libertarian End of the Raegan coalition, when I served on the justice department in the eighties,And i think there is some indications that in this election the republican party has been playing on a smaller playingfield. So as Bill Parcels used to say; lets elongate that playingfield, and well put more points on the board.
cup a Joe:
Well governor is that the future of the republican party a more libertarian republican Party. Is that how you win start winning in Maine, New Hampshire, in Connecticut?
Well I hope so: I think it was Thomas Jefferson who said:
That governement governs best that governs least! (..., ..., ..)
(confusion)
James Cornyn takes over:
Having said that you a republican, former governor on the libertarian side are endorsing obama, some other republicans are endorsing Obama, a lot of republicans are gona lose in this election cycle, their seats on the house and senate, and what will be left is a party that is even more southern centric, even more socially conservative, even more driven by issues that put the government in the bedroom and not necessarily the party that is all about fiscal conservatism that I think represents more of your views:Is This Party Savable?
Mika goes on to use a quote of Krauthammer's endorsement of Mccain to accuse Weld of treason to the republican party, Weld counters nicely..
....., Well you know, My endorsement of senator Obama really has more to do with senator Obama than it has to do with Mccain or the Republican party. I just think Obama has a kitbasket of talent that I seldom have ever seen the like, I think he is a once in a generation combination of extreme inltelligence and just great balance and calme. I look forward to see that degree of balance judgement and calme in the oval office.
Weld closes with defending Palins credentials calling her 'kinda fresh' to throw us off balance a bit, watch the video if you like what you read this far!
