Sarah Palin, the candidate who aspires to be a heartbeat away from the Oval Office never can seem to get things right. In today's edition of "Palin, Interrupted" she made a major energy policy speech in Ohio at Xunlight Corporation in Xenia, where she outlined her potential administration's energy plans.
Problem for Palin is that either she didn't read her speech thoroughly beforehand, or had cognitive disassociation about where she was giving it. MSNBC's story picks it up from here:
MSNBC: Palin Seeks Break From Bush Energy Policies
Palin made only a passing reference to solar power in her speech and instead renewed her call for more drilling in U.S. coastal waters. She repeated her signature anthem, "drill, baby, drill," which seemed to fall a bit flat on the audience at the plant even as it's become a popular chant at her rallies.
Considering that McCain repeatedly voted against alternative energy measures in the Senate and that Palin's administration in Alaska has close ties to energy concerns, not to mention truly socialist policies regarding extraction of energy assets in her state, the policies itself are no surprise. The place she chose to outline them, however, is nothing short of silly.
One would have to suspect that if anything, she gave away a handful of votes from Xunlight Employees to Obama/Biden. For the record,
Xunlight Corporation products are thin-film silicon based solar cells and PV modules. These products utilize various thin film Si based alloys, including amorphous silicon (a-Si), amorphous silicon germanium (a-SiGe), and nanocrystalline silicon (nc-Si). Products with two different device structures are produced.
Xunlight also received grants from the US Department of Energy (DOE), to develop photovoltaic hydrogen generation systems which could potentially be used to create H2 fuel for fuel-cell powered vehicles and homes in the future.
Quite a striking venue to outline a "drill, baby, drill" energy strategy, wouldn't you say?
