The pictures of long lines at the polls tend to dishearten us. We think this means our side is more likely to lose votes on election day because people show up to vote and leave when they see the line.
Not. This. TIME.
When I saw the lines in Florida wrapping around the block for early voting, the message to me was clear. We're not walkng away this time.
No, if anything, given the enthusiasm gap, I predict we'll see more McCain backers walk away on election day rather than waiting in line. I've got inlaws who two elections ago read me the riot act about how McCain wasn't their kind of Republican. We see it in all the polling data. McCain voters aren't excited about him or their own party these days. And they expect him to lose anyway.
So, jam the lines! Heck, if you've already voted in your own neighborhood, go to a typically Republican area and STAND IN LINE!!!
Just kidding.
We probably don't need this last one. It's a dirty trick and we're above that. But damn if it wouldn't feel like a bit of payback to be standing there watching conservatives get back in their warm cars shaking their heads in disgust as they refuse to wait for an hour to cast their token vote for McCain...
