Saturday, I canvassed with my wife, mother in law and daughter (well my daughter didn't really canvass, just climbing the stairs and picking up sticks (but she is two!).
Below is brief look at what I saw and why I think Obama can WIN Indiana!
We canvassed in East Chicago, an economically struggling community lying in the Northwest corner of Indiana, between Chicago and Gary.
While most of the homes we visited found no one home, most of those we did find seemed enthusiastic in support of Senator Obama.
There was one person in particular who gave us real hope.
He was 38 years, and on our list because he was considered a "sporadic" voter. And sporadic he was--he had hever voted before. Yet at the age of 38, he was determined to cast his first vote for Senator Barack Obama. He and his wife would be voting early, Saturday or Sunday. A great way to end my canvassing.
But more than the results of the canvassing, the real thing that gave me hope was the number of volunteers! Tons and tons before we left the place. It must have been 50-100 or so. SO MANY that they could send out tons of canvassers. In fact they gave us the almost the same list as a group they sent out at almost the same time. Maybe it was just an error, but it allowed us to follow the other group's list and hit homes that which they may have found no one home.
And remember, the East Chicago Obama office was one of at least 78 in the state, including nearby offices in Hammond and Gary!
Obama can WIN INDIANA! Yes we can!!!!!
And to give us some hope, watch my 29 month old daughter's confidents assessment of the state of the race!
