I just voted at a West 92nd Street location in Manhattan. Someone else I know voted at another West Side location. At both polling places we were asked for IDs. There was a piece of paper at my polling place telling voters what are acceptable forms of ID. I BELIEVE THIS IS ILLEGAL. I am fortunate. I am a driver and carry my license. But how many voters do not drive, will wait on line for goodness knows how long, only to be told to go home and bring back a utility bill... and how many of those voters will not return and will not vote? Also, I canvassed people in my office, several of whom vote on the East Side of Manhattan (in much more upscale, whiter neighborhoods than mine). They were not asked for identification at their polling places. I AM VERY WORRIED. WHAT IS GOING ON?? I am at work and it is hard for me to get the word out--but I hope that some of you are able to. I have already reported my complaint with the chief clerk of the Board of Elections but all you're able to do is leave a message.
