Thanks to Wes Clark for his invaluable leadership in Democratic electoral politics from the very moment he left the '04 primary run and endorsed John Kerry. There are possibly thousands of "Clarkies" who have been regulars at ActBlue and other portals. Places where they could possibly be motivated from afar...
I believe that each of you will have your own leader or leaders to whom kudos belong today. The visionaries who kept these electronic grassroots action and money flowing. Couldn't have made it without 'em.
It's remarkable that Obama prevailed last night by having made maximum use of the internet for attracting contributors and volunteers. Far more powerful than Howard Dean, and that was no small feat. Gov. Dean's 50-state strategy both two years ago and now are among the prized results of "netroots rising".
I think we should remember to give credit to the prominence of the use of candidate surrogates, this time not just to get them out stumping in front of crowds, but also them resorting to savvy in communications technology. The surrogates, too, are a part of Obama's new dawning. Getting contacted by respected party dignitaries to learn about races in other corners of the nation where we should weigh-in really increased our sense of participation in the picture across the whole nation. Don't you agree?
General Clark, I thank you so very much for giving me an opportunity to be involved in a larger cluster of issues and races than I'd ever have noticed on my own. You jumped headlong into the trenches when we asked you to in 2003. You came into my deeply red state several times and enabled the state Party to churn along just a little faster and more effectively. You helped veterans understand they owed alliegance to the Fighting Dems.
Technology and the global awareness of the citizenry will see to it that things will never be the same again.
Regards,
