"Oh what a tangled web we weave,
When first we practice to deceive!"
Sir Walter Scott, you were a wise man.
Remember when Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota told MSNBC's Chris Matthews that, "[She] is very concerned that he [President Obama] may have anti-American views"?
Apparently, we should just forget about that.
After suggesting that Barack Obama had anti-American views in an exchange three weeks ago with MSNBC host Chris Matthews, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) told Politico Thursday that she was "extremely grateful that we have an African-American who has won this year." She called his victory "a tremendous signal we sent."
"I have not seen the United States as a racist nation," said Bachmann, who represents Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District, in the east-central part of the state. "In my district, I don’t sense racism, and that’s why I’m thankful that hopefully this will send a national signal across our country that America is not a nation made up of racists. ... On the same hand, I hope that the national media will not confuse disagreement with Obama’s policy positions with being consumed [by] racism."
Ah...Senator Joe Lieberman, the traitor himself who in an August McCain event said that "between one candidate, John McCain, who has always put the country first, worked across party lines to get things done, and one candidate who has not."
We need a sever case of amnesia.
"I sincerely congratulate President-elect Obama for his historic and impressive victory. America remains a nation of extraordinary opportunity and the American people are a people of extraordinary fairness. Now that the election is over, it is time to put partisan considerations aside and come together as a nation to solve the difficult challenges we face and make our blessed land stronger and safer. I pledge to work with President-elect Obama and his incoming Administration in their efforts to reinvigorate our economy and keep our nation secure and free."
Remember when our beloved governor of Alaska, Mrs. Sarah Palin accused President Obama of "palling around with terrorists?
Apparently, we should just forget about that too.
"Barack Obama has been elected president," Ms. Palin said. "Let us, let us — let him — be able to kind of savor this moment, one, and not let the pettiness of maybe internal workings of the campaign erode any of the recognition of this historic moment that we’re in. And God bless Barack Obama and his beautiful family."
And what about the other guy?
I don't need to mention all the things that we need to forget, but at least John McCain ended on a good note.
"It is natural -- it's natural tonight to feel some disappointment, but tomorrow we must move beyond it and work together to get our country moving again. We fought -- we fought as hard as we could.
And though we fell short, the failure is mine, not yours."
