Unbelievable as it may seem, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands does not have a Democratic Party!!! We do have some local policians here that run as Democrats but they ALL aknowledge that they support the US National Republican Party.
This is made even more unbelievable by the fact that our average wage per capita person is the lowest on US soil and 95% of our populace are persons of color!!!
The insane situation was, of course, fueled by billions of garment factory money that bought local politicians and fed them their voting script.
A new America offers prospects for our children. The election of Obama sends the message to our children that every citizen, regardless of skin color or nationality knows now that their dreams of becoming president are possible. America has spoken and has sent a clear message of equality for all.
For centuries, immigrants arriving to the new world, descendants of slaves, women, Latin Americas, Asian and Pacific Island laborers, handicapped persons, Jews, Muslims, Hindu, Buddhists, and even Native Americans struggled to share the American dream, while suffering dreadful oppression. The study of US History is an account of social justice, or injustice, as the case may be. The election of Senator Obama has paved the way for new hope and opportunity for all unprecedented in US History.
CNMI politicians support the Republican Party due to previous Congressional protection requirements essential to the former textile industry. Even local democratic candidates support the national Republican Party. Our economy has changed drastically. America faces economic uncertainty financing two wars while competing in a global market stressed by dwindling natural resources in a growing population. Regions that succeed in the 21st century will adapt quickly to a rapidly changing world.
The US Republican Party generally comprises two groups; the wealthy seeking tax cuts and white conservatives that would include right wing religious zealots. The Democratic Party represents people of color, minorities, and diverse ethnic groups. Modern Democratic philosophy prefers to tax the wealthy and corporations seeking a more equitable way to distribute the wealth.
The Republican Party is now disgraced with scandal, divided, disenchanted with war, and struggling to sell unmarketable economic theory.
We now have our first member to the US House of Representatives. No more will the decent people of the commonwealth rely on high priced lobbyists, lawyers, and charlatans for our voices to be heard. The Democratic Party controls the House, Senate, Presidency, and they may control US politics for a long time. It is reasonable to assume that our people need local representation and affiliation with the National Democratic Party. Now is the time for the people of the Marianas to form and support the National Democratic Party.
"Let us resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long. Let us remember that it was a man from this state who first carried the banner of the Republican Party to the White House – a party founded on the values of self-reliance, individual liberty, and national unity. Those are values we all share, and while the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and determination to heal the divides that have held back our progress.
As Lincoln said to a nation far more divided than ours,"We are not enemies, but friends... though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection." And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn – I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too.
And to all those watching tonight from beyond our shores, from parliaments and palaces to those who are huddled around radios in the forgotten corners of our world – our stories are singular, but our destiny is shared, and a new dawn of American leadership is at hand. To those who would tear this world down– we will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security – we support you. And to all those who have wondered if America’s beacon still burns as bright – tonight we proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from our the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity, and unyielding hope.
For that is the true genius of America – that America can change. Our union can be perfected. And what we have already achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow." - President-elect Obama
He is the man for the future, spokesperson for the world, defender of freedom, protector of the downtrodden, the President for a new America, and an "unyielding" hope for the people of the Northern Marianas Islands.
