Yeah, I know. What DVD? And how about my lame attempt at title humor as in "I want my MTV"?
Okay, a girl at work and I were discussing how wonderful it would be if we could have a DVD of Election Night 2008. Her husband also missed the 30 minute infomercial and we both said we would like to have that on DVD.
Are there any plans for the DNC or some entity to do this? Join me after the bump to discuss how we can get our Barack Obama DVD.
The National Football League (NFL) and their teams have been doing this for many years now. Win a Super Bowl, I want my team's Super Bowl DVD. Win the World Series, I want my World Series DVD. Win a presidency, I want my damn DVD!!!
Besides the basic "I love and fully support Barack Obama" supporter who may want to review that wonderful night and moments on election night there is another interesting aspect of this venture. Can you guess?
Fundraiser. What better way to seek donations to the DCCC, DNC, or next Obama campaign? Hey everybody does it, in fact, PBS is notorious for it. Yeah, if you could only get your hands on that Red Rocks Moody Blues Concert DVD or Celtic Women CD, you'd probably buy it at a reasonable price but instead you cough up the Fifty or Seventy-Five bucks and don't mind because you're giving to a worthy cause.
Heck, even if it turns out that the DNC or DCCC can't legally do this, I know that I and a whole heckuva lot of other people would buy this merchandise from a third party regardless if the Democratic party benefited from it.
And, here's part of the sales pitch.
Act now and we'll throw in a free bonus DVD. Barack Obama's campaign from the inside. See and hear how Barack Obama won this historic election with interviews of his top campaign strategists. See what mistakes were made in the Obama campaign and the McCain campaign.
Enough of the fluff. Seriously, the girl at work and I were discussing how we were flipping channels from CNN to MSNBC, etc. and how we wished we were recording then especially as the countdown clocks on these two networks headed down towards 00:00 as we neared 11 PM EST. And, that's when it happened. They called the presidency for Barack Obama!!! Wow!!! Wouldn't you like to see that again?
Personally, I still would like to have his 30 minute infomercial and perhaps even a more detailed compilation summary of his entire campaign from the day he announced, through the primaries, and general election.
I don't know how doable this is and whether it borders on arrogance especially so early after the election but I'm hopeful that eventually it can be done. If its not against campaign finance law, why don't we encourage the DNC or some entity to start planning to develop these DVD's?
