As we prepare to (hopefully) reach 60 Senate seats, I'm glad to see we might have a chance to oust Norm Coleman and Saxby Chambliss. I, for one, have never forgiven the man from Georgia for his horrendous attack on the gentlemen we all know as Max Cleland.
But one man who, regardless of his political persuasion, I will miss is Gordon Smith. I'm proud to be a Democrat, and I'm thrilled we picked up the seat, but at the same time, I am saddened to see him leave the Senate, as I thought he was one of the few GOP Senators who actually had a heart.
If you have any doubts about that, I would urge you to watch his concession speech.

Coming from a family that has suffered from mental health issues, Senator Smith brought a deeply personal connection to the fight and we should all be thankful to him for his efforts.
In the coming days, close, contested races will continue to be bitterly fought until a winner is declared. While we all hope that the Democrats are the winners in all those contests, let us hope that they won't forget their humble beginnings or who they are really fighting for - the people.
