Delaware Dem had an excellent roll call yesterday/today. In case you missed it, here it is: http://www.dailykos.com/...
The poll that Delaware Dem had was to ask what part of the country you live in. As of about 1:00 PM PST, the Great Lakes narrowly was beating California (by 3 votes); however, the Pacific Northwest had the highest "per capita" representation on Daily Kos--by a long shot.
The stats are below the fold...hopefully, I didn't have any calculation errors...
And, here they are:
Column 1: REGION (STATES)
Column 2: DKOS RESPONDENTS
Column 3: DKOS RESPONDENTS PER 1000000 POPULATION
Column 4: DKOS RESPONDENTS PER 1000000 OBAMA VOTERS
New England (MA, NH, VT, RI, CT, ME) 715 50 171
Northeast (NY, NJ, DE, PA) 1188 29 120
Mid Atlantic (MD, DC, VA, WV) 600 38 148
Southeast (NC, SC, GA, FL) 813 20 91
Deep / Middle South (TN, KY, AL, MS, LA, AR) 345 14 79
Great Lakes / Midwest (OH, IN, IL, MI, WI, MN) 1468 28 109
Plains (MO, KS, IA, ND, SD, NE, OK) 429 23 110
Southwest (TX, NM, AZ) 705 22 143
Rocky Mountains (CO, UT, NV, WY, MT, ID) 383 29 148
California 1465 40 201
Pacific Northwest (OR, WA) 797 78 315
The Freak States (HI, AK) 79 40 183
So...as expected, regions with more Obama voters tended to have more DKOS users (especially since almost every eligible voter in our DKOS community voted for Obama). However, when we look at DKOS users relative to Obama voters, there was still a geographic disparity--the Southeast/Mid-South clearly had fewer DKOS users than the West (in that category, anything that touches the Pacific clearly ranks higher than all else--even New England). So...you could consider people in the West to be "Daily Kos Democrats"!
Now...we can ask ourselves, how can we increase the outreach to those parts of the country that have fewer DKOS users? Income levels are lower in the Southeast/Mid-South and the average age is higher...I presume those could be issues, but less so as time goes on as more people from the working class (and retirees) become connected to the Internet. This is one part of the country where we need to take action to increase the Democratic vote, that's for sure...
By the way, given that this was pretty much up for more than 24 hours, we can assume that there's not much geographical skew due to people on one coast versus the other to be more available.
Anyway, just thought I'd have fun throwing a few stats out...
