I don't donate huge amounts of money to candidates, but I do make donations. This election cycle, I donated to Jim Martin, Al Franken, Barack Obama and Elwyn Tinklenberg.
I will continue to make small donations in the future.
But now there's going to be a litmus test.
I've made my mind up. There must be consequences when Senate Democrats capitulate.
I will not make any donations EVER to any Senator who votes to keep Lieberman as chairman on the Senate Committee for Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. Now I know this is a secret ballot, but I'm sure over time it will become clear who many of the gutless senators are. I don't care how close the race is. I don't care if they lose. They will not have my support.
I think the DKos community should establish a working list of Senators suspected of voting for Lieberman and put the burden on each of them to state if they did not in fact do so. For those who voted for Lieberman, I for one will not support them, financially or otherwise.
I listened today again to some of the things Lieberman said about Barack Obama at the Republican National Convention and at other times during the campaign.
Disgraceful.
Again, there must be consequences. The Democratic Party must stand for something. Principle must not be eviscerated by expediency. Joe Lieberman can stay in the caucus, if he wishes. But he must not be rewarded with the chairmanship of one of the most important committees in the Senate. That’s where I stand. In fact, to make sure none of my dollars are ever used to support one of these senators, I will not make any donations to the DSCC while Joe Lieberman remains chairman of the Homeland Security Committee.
