I am suspecting that this will be the last update.
Begich, Mark DEM 150728 47.76%
Stevens, Ted REP 147004 46.58%
The lead is clearly out of the margin of 0.5%, in fact it's over 1% now, so internet tubes Ted is toast. He can pay for a recount, but you don't make up a 1.18% gap in a recount. It ain't happening.
I will update with a news article when it becomes available.
Update: Per David Shuster on MSNBC. AP calls the race for Senator-elect Mark Begich.
Update2:
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens has losthis bid for a seventh term. The longest-serving Republican in the history of the Senate trailed Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich by 3,724 votes after Tuesday's count. That's an insurmountable lead with only about 2,500 overseas ballots left to be counted.
Stevens, who turned 85 Tuesday, also revealed that he will not ask President George W. Bush to give him a pardon for his seven felony convictions.
Update 3: Happy Birthday To Senator Stevens. Born on November 18, 1923. His Senate Career died 85 years later on November 18, 2008.
Update 4: Senator-Elect Begich has released a statement.
"I am humbled and honored to serve Alaska in the United States Senate," Begich said. "It’s been an incredible journey getting to this point, and I appreciate the support and commitment of the thousands of Alaskans who have brought us to this day. I can’t wait to get to work fighting for Alaskan families."
