Why do we think any of these guys will be any different? And in the case of NY Gov. David Paterson, why are we so quick to fawn over a political figure who posts a diary, and then goes about the people's business thusly:
Governor asks others to cut while upgrading the mansion
I truly had high hopes for Paterson, on several levels. And I know others here did as well.
We thought he might truly bring a new tone, a new approach, and a breath of fresh air following the Spitzer mess.
Ah, but then, reality sets in.
The mansion needs a rug, there's a campaign donor in the rug business, yada yada yada.
I don't begrudge Gov. Paterson a new rug, but at some point these guys have to embrace and understand the circumstances surrounding them, and behave accordingly. Asking schools to make mid-year budget cuts, as well as approaching the unions to re-open current contracts takes a lot of credibility.
This may now be in shorter supply.
And a lesson might also be learned here regarding the drop-in contributions like Paterson's last week. OOOOHH! It's the Governor! And I can Comment!
I'm sure he's working on all of our contributions right now.
On his rug.
