In grade school when this holiday arrived our teachers always implored us to think of what we were thankful for before we went home for our Thanksgiving feast. It used to be a struggle, and I would always come up with something lame. Not this time.
I am thankful for Barack Obama. Here's why...
I am thankful because I know that the next time a natural disaster strikes this country, the reaction will not be this:
The reaction will be more like this:
I am thankful that a guy like this is never going to be in charge of the administration of justice in this country again:
I am thankful for the sacrifices made by our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq ...
... and I am very thankful that their fates are no longer going to be decided by guys like this:
I am thankful we are going to have a President who used to teach Constitutional Law ...
... instead of one who consults a team of dubious lawyers who concoct rationalizations for his plans to circumvent the Constitution.
I am thankful for a President who believes that affordable health care is a right, and not a privilege.
I am thankful we are going to have a stateswoman as our chief diplomat ...
... instead of a warrior.
I'm thankful we have a President who cares enough about this country to pick this guy to be his backup ...
... instead of this gal:
I'm thankful that the message coming from the White House is going to be the truth, coming from this guy ...
... and not a bunch of lies cooked up by this guy:
Overall I am thankful I am not going to have to worry about all of these things any more. Because I know that a man is going to be in charge who cares about the American people, and that means all of the people, not just the wealthy and privileged. Barack Obama possesses the wisdom and judgment to make the right decisions, at least most of the time. That is good enough for me, compared to what we have had to put up with the last 8 years.
The Bush administration very nearly drove me insane. I couldn't deal with it anymore. The 4,200 troops sent off to die in a needless war, the firing of seven U.S. attorneys for political reasons, the outing of Valerie Plame, the pardoning of Scooter Libby, the veto of the SCHIP bill, torture, rendition, etc., etc. I will never forgive them for the way they made me feel about myself and my country.
I am not going to be spending as much time on this site as I have been (it is a great community and the site is very addictive). For me it is not necessary anymore. I need to focus on getting my own life in order, and now that Barack Obama is going to be in charge, I feel like I can go ahead and do that without having to worry that the world is literally going to come to an end.
Thanks to all of you and I encourage you all to enjoy your lives and spend some time with your families this holiday weekend. We helped get the best guy into the White House, and it may take a while, but everything is gonna be all right.
And for that we can all be thankful.
