Ah yes, good 'ol red-county of Florida, Collier County. Collier was 60-40 for McCain this election cycle. Usually is a red-meat kinda county, but the Democrats gained ground this time around.
So this year I hosted T-giving at my home. All of my family except my wife and I voted for McCain this year; we voted for Obama. Our political stances are well known, but we all accept it, bicker our points, and move on...
This T-giving was good. Food was good, family was gathering. The election was over, and of course I got what I was looking for out of that.
We own a newer mini-van and I borrow my father's SUV until I save up to buy my own 2nd car (my 2nd car is currently broken).
During the election season, both cars were fitted with my Obama stickers. I put them on the glass for future removal if needed, especially my father's SUV since he supported McCain. He never sees the SUV, so I know I could've just removed it if he got upset.
My mini-van, however, had that rare (at least in my part of town) oval pinkish/blueish "Vote Obama/Biden 2008" Moveon.org sticker. I got it last year and only see a few around town. I donated some cash to get them, not a whole lot (like $5-10 bucks), but still, CASH.
As the family gathered today, the smokers in my family (wife included) went to the front driveway and chatted away. A few jokes here and there about our stickers were made, but nothing I haven't heard before.
My father, of course, saw the sticker on his SUV and removed it without me knowing. I really didn't mind because it wasn't my vehicle, nor was it a "rare" Obama sticker.
He came inside after his smoke break and mentioned it, but I didn't mind. As the day drew to a close, I was still getting some flak about the sticker on MY mini-van. I shrugged it of as harassing, but didn't mind. I then went into the house to help my wife with the baby.
Family started to leave, so I walked outside to wave and yell "bye" to those leaving, only to see the empty spot where my sticker used to be on my van!! "WTF?" I stammered, but nobody fessed up and everyone who could have "done it" drove off.
The rest of the family shortly left, but I was steaming. It's not the fact that it was a colorful sticker on my van; its not the fact that its an Obama sticker that nobody likes; nor is it the fact that I had to pay for it. Instead, its the fact that it was MY STICKER ON MY VAN.
I mean, when I think rationally about it, I'm still pissed. Even if someone would have ripped off my KORN sticker, I'd be pissed. Nobody, not even family, has the right to do that. That really made my T-giving a bit disappointing.
If anyone has any spare oval "Vote Obama/Biden 2008" stickers, I'd be willing to pay. I don't want to get leeched by some eBayer though. Please let me know if I'm a bit off the deep-end or if you would feel the same.
Crime Scene - WARNING: DIRTY VAN PIC - FLASH SHOWS MORE DIRT THAN IT APPEARS ;)
UPDATE
I spoke to my father on the phone about it. He states that he would never do that to MY car. He also states that he thinks it was wrong to do and leans towards my 17 yr old cousin or her father (my uncle of course) who were out there when my father was indoors with me. He is willing to take the polygraph ;). I think the adolescent cousin did it in angst.
