After watching Bill Moyers last night on TV, I want to add my voice to those who want to have Micheal Pollen as Secretary of Agriculture. He seems to have a firm grasp of the problem and he does have administrative experience. He may say he does not want the job but he would have trouble refusing the President of the United States if asked to serve his country.
I know that President Elect Oboma says that he wants to bring all sides to the table but since the mid 20th Century the business interests have owned the table and given the rest of us the crumbs. This mantra of bigger is better and what is good for business is good for America no longer applies. In the key areas of Agriculture, Energy, Environment, Health and Education which are so important to the mental and physical health and stability of our country, the business interests have owned the Government Agencys in charge of these things for some time. I was glad to see the Democratic Caucus replace Dingell with Waxman but that is just one small step in the right direction.
When candidate Oboma promised us change, I know that he knew that this was going to be difficult, but at this juncture he has not only has the country but apparently the popular opinion of the whole world behind him. I can understand that in the economic sector he wants experience and the ability to deal with the Washington system in his selections but if we are going have change in the basic way this country is run we need real new thinking in the areas mentioned above, not just capable people from the Clinton administration. I hope that President Elect Oboma will reach deeper into the great human resource pool that we have in this country and come up with some leaders for the 21st Century.
