The diary is being written in regards to the ridiculous comments cheering the defeat of Bill Jefferson. First of all, I must say, Jefferson is a dishonor to the caucus. He had a horrible voting record and a worse ethical record. It was still the sensible decision to vote for him for reelection yesterday.
Worst case scenario, we would have been stuck with him for a year. That was if his trial was postponed again. There is a good chance that he will have his trial in the first few months of next year. So, then we would have had a special election and installed someone good. But we're stuck with a Republican representing one of the regions that most needs a Democrat.
Yeah, Jefferson was a ethical blot on the Democratic caucus, but so was Bill Clinton, so is Charlie Rangel. I don't hear a lot of impeachment fans here... The Democrats should have stripped Jefferson of all power, except for his floor voting priviliges. That would have been the right decision. Heck, the minute he's convicted, EXPELL HIM!!!
So in conclusion, anyone who proclaimed that they were glad Jefferson lost, don't ever,ever again complain about Joe Lieberman endorsing a GOP candidate. The outrage on here when he was given his committee post was justified, but so is my outrage over fellow dailykos users. At least Lieberman has some Democratic leanings. Does anyone here think that Cao will vote with us on much of anything at all. He is, in many ways, liberated in his voting record. He knows he won't win.
Plus look at the logjam he just created for Obama;
"Lastly I will use whatever influence I have to help retain the Louisiana’s current US District Attorney, Jim Letten, who has served our state so admirably."
-Joe Cao
Not one more complaint about Lieberman. I'll be watching.
