Barry Cooper, ex-narc turned anti-WoD advocate ("Never Get Busted Again"), caught an illegal drug raid by the Odessa, Texas, police on live streaming video. The link is here (nevergetbusted.com). The site is down at this time due to heavy traffic, but Radley Balko at Reason.com has a summary.
More after the break.
Balko's summary includes a quote from Cooper's website:
KopBusters rented a house in Odessa, Texas and began growing two small Christmas trees under a grow light similar to those used for growing marijuana.
[...]
The trap was set and less than 24 hours later, the Odessa narcotics unit raided the house only to find KopBuster’s attorney waiting under a system of complex gadgetry and spy cameras that streamed online to the KopBuster’s secret mobile office nearby.
Cooper raises two questions about this raid. First, who tipped the cops off? He suspects that they were using infrared imaging equipment, which is illegal without a search warrant. Second, what probable cause did they give the judge who signed off on the warrant for the raid? There was nothing illegal going on, so just why did the cops do what they did?
The fact that the site is down due to high traffic is, of course, great news. This one isn't going to disappear quietly.
