The United States Senate and House of Representatives are overwhelmingly favoring small red states over large blue states. This has a domino affect on the Electoral College, and if the senate had no affect on the Electoral College we would be talking about President Gore.
The Senate
The Senate is the most exposed of overrepresentation. According to Census estamites, Wyoming (The Smallest State) has a population of 500,000 while California (The Largest) has a population of about 36,500,000. In the Senate no matter what your population is you recieve two votes. Therefore a Californian is 1/73 the person that a Wyoming Resident is, A New Yorker 1/38.5,and A Texan is about 1/48 a Wyoming Resident.
The House
While being more democratic than the Senate, the house still has it's problems. Once again Wyoming has the upper hand over other states. For example Wyoming's At Large District has about 500,000 residents while the Montana At Large District has about 950,000 residents. A little less than double the size of Wyoming's district.
My Plan
The easy way to fix this is to have party line voting where voters cast their vote for The House and Senate for a party instead of an individual canidate. Each party would submit a list of canidates and seats would be awarded based off of the parties national percentage of votes recieved. The top of the parties list would have top priority of election, and the bottom name on the list would have a very slim possibility of being elected.
This Nation was founded off of the principle that all men are created equal and we cannot stand as a nation when a large percentage of the nation is under represented and some of the nation is over represented.
