It seems as if Reid will cave no matter what even though we're in the majority. Why is that?
Republicans were able to get the things they wanted done just by having a simple majority. Yet it seems, people are thinking how we NEED to get 60 votes or else we can't accomplish anything. This is completely ridiculous.
The Republicans are bitter, obstructionist losers. We shouldn't NEED to have a supermajority in order to get something done when the public very clearly WANTS change. The Democrats didn't threaten to filibuster every single piece of GOP legislation back when we were in the minority, but it seems like the GOP is going to.
And they only have 42 (possibly 41) Senate seats! This kind of obstructionism is completely ridiculous. We need to either abolish the filibuster all together to stop the Republicans from abusing it, or set the votes needed for cloture down to 55. Even though I doubt milquetoast Reid would do anything like that because the Republicans might yell and be mean to him.
That is another problem we have, ineffective leadership. Reid is completely ineffective, and caves into anything and everything Bush wants. Or if McConnell threatens to filibuster, what does Reid do? "Oh well, no point in going any further...". No, Reid. Here's what you do: MAKE THEM FILIBUSTER!! Make everyone see the obstructionist fools that they are so the public can hate them even more, and elect even more Democrats. Make an issue out of it during the elections, show the public that they do nothing to help our country like they profess, only put it in gridlock.
We can only hope this kind of bullcrap changes come January...here's hoping.
