At an annual meeting of the Commonwealth Club, Arlen Specter may have further hurt his reelection chances by insulting many of his constituents with tasteless ethnic jokes. While speaking at the meeting, Arlen asked if any Polish people were in the audience. When some raised their hands, Arlen quipped, ""That's OK - I'll tell it more slowly."
According to attendees, Arlen’s offensive behavior continued as he spewed forth a string of anti-Polish jokes. Fortunately, the contents of his subsequent slurs were not disclosed.
Predictably, the New York crowd was not amused:
"No one walked out, but it was offensive," said our source. "I was offended, and I’m not Polish."
While a part of me is concerned at this bizarre display, another part of me is embarrassed that a fellow Pennsylvania (a US Senator no less!) would engage in such boorish, ignorant behavior as a guest in a neighboring state. You’ll get your comeuppance at the polls, Arlen.
