Who among us can say that those words, spoken by Barack Obama at the Democratic Convention in 2004, didn't make us misty, or make us swoon, or gave us hope?
Who among us didn't applaud when Obama vowed that he would reach out to the red states, to the conservatives, to everybody...to forge a nation united to address the pressing problems of our nation and our world?
So, some are equating my diary with support of homophobia. Not so. I do not believe that has to be explained. I surely hope not.
Obama is inclusive. He has to be. It doesn't mean he, or I am homophobic.
There is ignorance. We know that. They have to be gently swayed.
That is what Obama is trying to do.
Didn't we all love that? Yes we did.
And that's exactly what Obama is doing. He is reaching out to the Red States, to the Christians, to the conservatives.
He is doing exactly what he vowed to do. He is doing exactly what he has to do in order to enact the agenda we all need.
He needs to bring the "left" and "right" together, and, as an expert leader can do...make them come together with common concerns and common dreams.
I have worked closely every day for 20 years with an evangelical Christian who loves and defends Bush, "no matter what!". But some of Obama's choices for cabinet and Warren for the Inaugural invocation, have taken her interest. I believe she is entertaining the idea that this president can be her president.
Yes, he can.
Please, everybody, calm down.
