President Elect Barack Obama changed the way that campaigns are run in America. He created a grassroots movement through the power of the internet. Now, it appears that he may bring the same participatory feel of his campaign to the way he runs the presidency.
The change.gov website now has a section called Open For Questions. This new innovation allows the American public to raise the issues that are important to Americans who don't have the benefit of a corpulent sleaze ball to lobby on their behalf. Registered users submit questions they would like to hear Obama answer, then vote yes or no on other questions.
This could very well be the first step towards seeing a new way of doing business in Washington. I would love to see a similar tool on the website of every member of congress so that their constituents have the tool to make their voices heard. Now so long as Obama and others give these questions with the same weight as those posed by the MSM and Washington lobbyists, we may see a more populist vehicle to lobbying the president.
