Rachel rocks. I have to say, she is totally the voice I've been looking for. She's talking about Feinstein; who, eventually (very eventually) concedes that torture is never okay.
Which is neat, if not exactly inspiring.
And, well, she just gets better and better.
They were the people who WE THE PEOPLE had to rely on during the Bush administration for Congressional oversight of the Bush admininistration on intelligence matters. We had them to count on to expose, to bring to light criminal acts like torture, like wholesale breaking of the wiretapping laws, like indefinite detention without trial; these criminal acts perpetrated by our own government. snip The consequence of that failure is... well, maybe it's that you don't get the first call when the incoming President is deciding who to select as his new CIA director.
I have to say, this smells like real change to me. Your party's new head of the Senate Intelligence Committee let the outgoing Preznit have his way with the Constitution? Pick someone who isn't tainted by torture, rendition, or the approval of Dems who let it happen.
Okay, President-Elect Obama did, belatedly, call DiFi and make nice. And that was probably okay. But I think the story is that there's a new sheriff in town, and if you were an appeaser of the last regime, well, you have some accountability as well. In fact, as Rachel points out, we ALL have some accountability.
She follows it up with an interview with former CIA office Bob Baer. His take on the issue of whether we need an experienced CIA Intelligence: No, she's wrong, we need an adult in charge.
For me, that completely says it. I've been saying that since election day (okay, way earlier, actually). The next two weeks cannot pass quickly enough. It's time.
Sorry, my video doesn't seem to work. Here's the link.
