I ran across an article in the Boston Herald today that General Motors has passed over a local Massachusetts battery company and has awarded the contract to produce batteries for the Volt to a Korean manufacturer.
General Motors Corp. has zapped Watertown start-up A123 Systems’ shot at supplying batteries for the Chevrolet Volt electric car.
The automaker yesterday said it picked the Korean company LG Chem Ltd., passing over a competing bid from Germany-based Continental Automotive Systems, which was using cells developed jointly by A123 and GM.
So we are spending how many billions to bail out US car companies and then they turn around a send part of the money to Korea? Shouldn't we be supporting our own internal advanced battery technologies? Isn't there something wrong with this picture?
I see the LA Times has also picked up on this.
