Duhbya is retiring young, at age 62. Happily, he has aged dramatically over the past eight years, but not as much as the rest of us.
In five years, 2014, where will he be? The poll below only allows you to pick one, so I've tried to present a range of choices. Choose the likeliest, not the most desirable!
A number of these are not mutually exclusive. That's what Comments are for! Take your most realistic guess at the poll, then pile your caveats and prognostications into the Comments.
Myself? I think he'll be drinking again, within weeks. He won't be able to handle the loneliness. Although he's a poster-boy narcissist, even those types know when they aren't loved. Obama-Love is going to eat deeply into what's left of Junior's soul.
Laura will put up with it for a few years before she files for divorce. (How many years?) In the meantime, she'll focus on some time-consuming, good-deed projects, far away from him. Is there any love left there anymore?
Not-Jenna will get married and then the girls will be busy raising families -- but not in Dallas. If either daughter has a son, they will include "George" in his name but they won't call him by that, "to avoid confusion," even though the kids' last names will not be "Bush."
Duhbya and Laura will return to Crawford next summer but will only stay a week, and then they'll never return. By 2014, the property will have been sold to a pig-farmer -- perhaps the same one who sold it to them in 1999.
As an optimist, I hope that Obama will re-sign us up for the International Criminal Court and that the Senate will ratify it. If so, by 2014, the BushCo cabal will be enough of an historical embarrassment that significant players in this administration will be hiring lawyers and not traveling abroad. The prosecution of their crimes will be widely considered as "clean-up," without much fuss. The nation will have moved on to new challenges.
One night, while Laura is San Diego (again!), Bush will go on a solo bender, decide to have some fun cleaning his guns, and then there will be a sparsely-attended Rotunda event on a slow weekend. The family will choose not to release details.
Arlen, Orrin, Clarence & Rush will help bear the pall. Karl and Donald will not get weekend-release passes to help, just like they didn't for Dick. And that will be that.
What is your scenario?
