A year ago at Christmas Santa left me a gift in my stocking. His elves toiled mightily to create a credit card sized countdown clock entitled "Bush's Last Day" with a small LCD display that slowly but surely counted down the months, days, minutes, and seconds to the long awaited end.
We laughed on that Christmas Day 2007... and had no idea that that little gem would provide so much anticipation. It's on the window sill over the kitchen sink, a little black card alone in a sea of off-white enamel. Relentlessly clicking each second off the clock as the primary season gave way to a nominee, ticking even as the world heaved a sigh of relief on November 5.
Our mighty ticking card is in its last hours now. We have no idea what will happen to it when it counts to zero. What is ahead is not its concern... Our cherished Bush's Last Day countdown clock has served its role by giving hope that the end would indeed come, not sooner or later, but on January 20, 2009.
Hallelujah.
