My answer below
I work at the University of Chicago, and as you might expect, a lot of people wanted to watch the event. So, the administration set up a big projection screen in a concert hall (Mandel Hall, for those who know the UofC campus), and I watched the inauguration with roughly 800 of my closest friends.
Highlights:
Before things started, a speaker pointed out that "Barack and Michelle have sat in some of those seats".
Obama's appearance got a standing ovation, as did his actual oath.
Biggest applause line in the speech was the bit about the importance of science. This was, after all, a crowd of academics.
Laughter at the reaction shot during the speech, of Bush listening to a litany of reasons of why he was a disaster.
Rick Warren got hissed at, and there was a collective "WTF?" moment from the crowd when he said "Malia and Sasha" with some strange stressing. As a coworker said afterwords, it made you want to go check for his name in a sex offenders registry.
