Tim Geithner's taxes: Who cares?
Listen, I want my public servants to be as clean as everybody else does, but I think people have got to think more big picture here
As far as I'm concerned, Geithner and his tax problems was a personal indiscretion. He should've paid his taxes, but there isn't really a conflict of interest here, as far as I can see
Obama thinks this is the guy who can get America out of the economic hole. Now, imagine hypothetically he isn't confirmed and is replaced by a less able individual and the economy collapses when it otherwise wouldn't. Was it worth cratering the economy so that you can sit at home, stewing in your self satisfaction that...well geez, America's a giant shanty town now and nobody has any money, but at least a guy who didn't pay his taxes didn't get in.
I say, when push comes to shove, you gotta go with the top guy, regardless of personal indiscretions.
If you want a saint, then go to church
