Welcome to the weekly series WAYWO, What Are You Working On, which is aimed toward crafters and creative people in our Daily Kos community. We welcome all sorts to come in and talk about what is currently on your project plate, be it home improvements, needlecrafts, kidcrafts, writing, blacksmithing, or anything else you can think of!
We also welcome anyone to guest host WAYWO - just post a comment and we'll get you on the schedule. Join our email notification Yahoo group and you'll know when WAYWO is posted. http://groups.yahoo.com/...
This is my first time hosting WAYWO and I'm feeling a little sheepish because not only do I not have a project-in-process to share, I waited until the last minute to start writing this. So welcome to the PROCRASTINATOR'S EDITION of WAYWO. ☺
I'm not just your regular run of the mill procrastinator. Oh, no. I am the Queen of the Procrastinators. Don't believe me? Top this:
When my friend Suzie had a baby in 1979, I decided to make her a crib quilt. Didn't matter that I knew nothing about quilting and didn't have a sewing machine. I was making a quilt for my BFF's baby girl, dammit. Geesh, how hard can it be to cut fabric into squares and sew them together? So I got a marking pencil and a ruler and scavenged some leftover fabric from my grandma and went to work.
I carried that quilt-in-process with me for more than a decade. It moved with me from WV to PA from PA to TX and from TX to NC. At some point, I finished piecing the top together and put it away.
In time, I became pregnant with my own child and decided to finish the darn thing. Did a little research and figured that tying it was easier than hand quilting. Hey, I sewed all those squares together by hand. Me and hand sewing were DONE. So I cut the backing and batting and managed to at least get that far before my son was born.
My baby turned 17 last month and here's that quilt:
Maybe I'll manage to get a binding on it before my grandchild is born.
So what are YOU working on? Feel free to share your stories of projects started, completed and projects forever in process.
