I will admit when Michael Steele was 1st elected elected as RNC chairman, I thought the party had found themselves a leader that may be able to drag the rest of the RNC into the 21st century. I was slightly worried. I know, I know. A couple of phrases caught my attention and he did seem to be a likable and charismatic. But the more I've heard from him, them more I realize that the GOP is in full and complete meltdown and that Steele is going to be the gift that keeps giving for years to come.
We all remember Steele ramblings on "Jobs vs Work". On Jan 2, 2009, Steele said this.
Not in the history of mankind has the government ever created a job
Really Michale? Never? So teachers, police, fire, judges, hell even the military don't count? Nope, no jobs there.
Then he goes on with Stephanopoulos and backtracks slightly but offers this gem of wisdom
The Presidents plan creates work, not jobs.
Now for the latest. The stimulus packages does pass, with zero House Republicans and 3 from the Senate. So how does Steele react to those 3 who did break ranks with the rest of the GOP? "No RNCC funds for you!"
What was it that McCain about to Obama a number of times?
Obama has never broken ranks with Democratic leadership and has not shown any of his own leadership on reaching across the isle.
(Paraphrase, couldn't find a link)
And now, Steele looks like he's more than willing to throw Specter under the bus to keep his party ideologically pure.
Ok I will admit I was wrong. I am much, much less worried about Mr. Steele now. Keep up the good work and continue to eat your own. Continue to drive out the moderate and sane members of your party, pretty please. At the rate the GOP is going they are going to be wandering in the wilderness for generations. All I can think of to close this off is, "This is good news for John McCain!"
