the truth is out there
— the x-files
times are tough in the land of the free and the natural-born™. the wheels of justice grind slowly, even backwardly, and the lack of progress against the usurper can weigh down the even the most patriotic hearts. but perhaps it's only when times are toughest that the truth is finally confessed, as it was today at our favorite hardcore right-wing blog.
the truth that was confessed, however, was not the truth about obama, but rather the truth about the certifigaters, and the rules of their game:
i'll say it again and again.
the game is not providing evidence, the game is providing innuendo. put obama on the defensive. we don't have to prove anything to do that, we just have to put the question out there.
that's the democrat playbook. that's the MSM playbook. that should be our playbook, too.
proof comes later. accusations and innuendos come now. don't hold up on spreading the perceptions because you're not sure you can seal the deal with proof.
taint obama's legitimacy with the appearance of irregularity. smoke him out. let him either show the proof or continue to live under the cloud of suspicion, but either way, don't hold back.
you know they wouldn't if the roles were reversed.
after all, the innuendo game's a proven strategy. it's no secret how well it worked against clinton:
bossie, the twenty-eight-year-old political director for citizens united, a conservative republican operation, runs an information factory whose whitewater production lines turn out a steady stream of tips, tidbits, documents, factoids, suspicions, and story ideas for the nation's press and for republicans on capitol hill. journalists and hill republicans have recycled much of the information provided by citizens united into stories that have cast a shadow on the clinton presidency.
[...]
... citizens united has collected thousands of facts and documents on whitewater and packaged it all to catch the attention of the press and to restoke the story whenever it threatened to die down.
but 2009 has yet to prove to be another 1992. unfortunately the smear merchants in the press, the certifigaters' natural ally, aren't biting this time around, and their betrayal has been straining what little mental machinery still creaks in obama's foes:
i find the this apocryphal story plausible even credible. there is no business reason to embargo this story. indeed, it should be a big money maker for a 24-hour news channel like fox. it would not be particularly expensive to cover and it would go on and on which are the twin pillars of moneymaking stories for these 24-hour news venues.
yet the story does not appear. it does not appear at all, it has been utterly shut down. it has been spiked! one would think that it would be mentioned at least in passing to maintain the illusion of journalistic credibility but that is not the case. one is compelled to wonder why?
it is possible, i suppose, to credit murdoch with a patriotic concern that the story has the potential to cast the country into a constitutional crisis at a time when it is fighting two wars abroad, faces potential terrorist attacks at home, and is threatened by the gravest financial crisis at least since the great depression. i concede that it is plausible that a man like maxwell simply might conclude that the country cannot afford to go through a watergate again, especially at this time of crisis. this is not my view, i think the constitution must prevail or the contrary is ultimately doomed.
another possibility is that murdoch, aware of the pressure brought by obama's forces against media outlets that cut too close to the quick during the campaign, in fact, they were directly threatened, is intimidated. it could simply be that murdoch is craven. but murdoch is not alone, no other outlet has touched the story either. rush limbaugh has a great deal of editorial license and he has not touched the story to my knowledge. why is the reluctance to open the story universal?
it could be that these gatekeepers of our news and opinion have concluded that it is counterproductive to the republican cause to affiliate itself with a story which is considered by them to be something that can be discussed only when wearing a tinfoil hat. my problem with this is that fastidiousness is hardly the hallmark of media outlets. indeed, respect for the truth has not always been the north star for broadcasters such as dan rather. it is hard to believe that they would all unanimously shrink from the story because they think it is just bogus. these are hard-bitten men and they surely must understand that the obama can end this story merely with the production of a $10 document, but he has spent $1 million to avoid doing so. these men must surely smell a rat. why are they not personally curious?
i do not know the answers to these conundrums. i would be grateful to hear other opinions.
what do you suppose is the reason for this? are they saving the story for a time when things get much much worse? we have already suffered a bloodless coup de etat!
we are not about to be taxed into poverty. i was going to go through the closets and cupboards and donate to goodwill the things we don’t use often enough etc but...well now my donatin’ days are over..who knows how things will be in the next year or so..may not be able to replace those wine glasses we are not using at the moment...
poor babies ... meanwhile the achingly few prime-time crumbs tossed to the true believers have done nothing for their credibility:
and the thrill of validation from a u.s. senator, the highest elected official to publicly address the issue, proved only momentary:
shelby, in a brief interview with POLITICO after he appeared at the white house, dismissed a report in the cullman (ala.) times in which he was captured as indulging a constituent’s question about whether the president was born on american soil, a widely debunked rumor held over from the presidential campaign.
“someone asked me that in a meeting and basically what i did is paraphrase, you know just quote for the crowd, what they said and i said that has been settled,” shelby recounted today, calling his remark “distorted.”
in the cullman times, shelby was quoted as saying:
“well his father was kenyan and they said he was born in hawaii, but i haven’t seen any birth certificate. you have to be born in america to be president.”
shelby’s staff quickly said the paper had offered an incomplete account of the senator’s remarks. no video or audio tape has emerged from the meeting.
shelby, who as the senior republican on the senate banking committee was appearing with obama and other members of congress to discuss financial regulation, made clear that he believed the president was a citizen.
“[i] never had any doubts,” he said. “i didn’t raise the doubt. they raised it in a meeting.”
shelby, who was captured on television tuesday night chatting with obama before his address to congress, said he had not addressed the issue with the president.
“no, he didn’t bring it up. he wouldn’t dignify it.”
shelby didn't merely tone down his alleged statement. he unequivocally repudiated the entire concept. and unlike the whitewater innuendo, all mention of certifigate in the msm come pre-stamped as "debunked".
i suspect someone “got to” senator shelby.
and i thought we had someone with the spine to stand up to The one.
i wonder if it hurts when your testicles shrivel and die overnight.
not if he never had any in the first place.
..a widely debunked rumor..
also, a more widely supported, evidenced and litigated rumor that no court has the guts to prosecute.
but it's been only six months since the smears began and only a month into obama's first four years. the certifigaters certainly have a lot of work cut out for them. perhaps that might change if obama stumbles and the republicans regain the majority. in the meantime, against an usurper more popular than jesus, one needs to fire with fire:
remember goliath and the philistines! we need davids who gather their courage, strength and resolve from the LORD. we need a clear vision from him. a people with a vision from the LORD are not afraid nor are they subject to compromise.
pro 29:18 where [there is] no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy [is] he.
