Maybe this is not the place for this kind of a diary, but I want so badly to do the right thing and not fill our landfill full of stuff that will never degrade. I have loads of old VHS tapes that we've recorded on and a dozen audio cassett tapes that we've used as well. But, in the spirit of being kind to our planet, how do I dispose of them in a responsible manner??
I've advertised on our local freecycle site and also on Craigslist under the "free" category. No takers. I cannot imagine that I would have to either keep these things until I die, and then they'd be thrown in the garbage by my kids. And, I just don't want to throw them away now. So what do I do with them? There is all kinds of outdated "stuff" that we all have and that someday will have to go, but where? This, I realize is a much bigger issue than my tapes. Every Tuesday and Friday, I see our huge county garbage trucks pick up everyone's plastic bagged "stuff" and I wonder what is in those bags...and where is it all going? When will we run out of places to put it? This is getting me crazy...any suggestions?
Sorry for doing a diary about what some may see as trivial, but really, this is a huge problem for us all.....
