On Thursday, 3/5/09, there will be a MAJOR labor protest at City Hall in NYC against the budget cuts proposed by Mayor Mike Bloomberg and Gov. David Patterson because of the economy. Major trade unions and other organizations from students and teachers of state/city universities, community organizations, homeowner organizations, minority groups and others will be showing up at city hall at the end of the business day, and, if you watch TV or read the news you will never know it happened.
Unions from all over NY state will arrive around 3-4pm, they will start marching in Brooklyn until they get to City Hall. Up to and over 100,000 people will be in attendance.

Why wouldn't the press cover such a big event?
The press is Corporate Propaganda and they don't want you to know.
On Thursday, at 3-4 PM, up to/over 100,000 people will be assembling and marching on City Hall in Manhattan over the upcoming budget cuts in the NY State and NYC budgets. We will be told that the budget cuts are necessary. Here are four reasons why that is not true.
- Before anything else in NYS or NYC gets paid out of the budget, the DEBT GETS PAID FIRST. On the debt issue there is no debate, it MUST be paid. To banks that failed and were bailed out with public money.
a. The public pays once at the metrocard machine,
b. twice by paying the taxes that make it available,
c. a third time buy bailing out banks with tax money we
pay for,
d. and a fourth time when the budget cuts go into effect
and we get reduced service and higher fares.
e. and we have to pay the salaries of the people who did
this to us.
- The State and City can raise taxes on the wealthy who can AFFORD it.
- The State and City can issue bonds. They could than use that revenue to pay the debt. Obviously someone out there will buy them, they are backed by NYS and NYC, and they are too big to fail as well. Besides, is there an investment that is less risky right now. Thought so.
- MAYOR BLOOMBERG IS THE 6TH WEALTHIEST MAN IN THE USA. He could lend the money to NYC or NYS and buy us all a metrocard, or ezpass card, and it wouldn't hurt him a bit.
In fact mayor Bloombergs personal value increased 4x since 2000. Not a bad job for presiding over the ruining of NYC financially. That rich guy you are pissed at, the CEO, the guy who buys private jets. THAT IS MIKE BLOOMBERG.
A man who is wealthier than AFGHANISTAN, who owns an INVESTMENT ADVISORY FIRM, who owns a TV STATION, and who recently OVERTURNED VOTER DECISIONS TO RUN FOR AN ILLEGAL THIRD TERM, says there is no money left.
I say BULLSHIT.
I will be there, handing out fliers for the National March On Wall St on April 3rd and 4th. Join me and others like yourselves who are fighting for their jobs, fighting for their homes, and fighting for the liberty and freedom we are supposed to have, the liberty of our Bill of Rights, the freedom to be able to earn a decent livable wage, and the freedom to say, THIS IS MY COUNTRY, AND YOU CAN'T CUT ME!

Add this diary to your Hotlist and check it throughout the day to see if the press supports telling the truth, or if it is propaganda after all.
P.S. Sorry to post and run, I am busy working/volunteering at the protest for the rest of the day. I will catch up with everybody here at DKos when I get back later tonight.
Good luck to you and yours,
MOT
Update: Just got back. Here are the facts.
-75,000 to 100,000 in attendance.
-All major networks were there, but will they give it coverage, and how will they frame that coverage?
-The largest protest turn out in DECADES
-A line from Barclay St to Canal St 4/5ths of a mile long
-And we are doing it again this March 8th for International Women's Day and April 3rd and 4th for the National March on Wall St
I will try to get the pictures up from my cell phone next
Let me know if the MSM gives this coverage. I don't have cable TV anymore, and I would rather not watch coverage at a bar.
Thanks!
