First of all I will apologize for the very short diary. I don't have much time but couldn't let this go by without saying something to someone, and who better than like minded people. In short, I am pissed .....
Out of curiosity I recently signed up for the 'We Surround Them' website just to see what it's about (yes I am sometimes a masochist) .... that lead me to a Facebook group that was set up for the 'Nationwide Tea Party'. Once there I was astounded by an image that was posted to the group.
I am so offended by this bullshit I can't keep it in. The image is of Michelle Obama and is edited to make her look horrible (I can't even say what it is..)
I've reported the image to Facebook as their terms state:
Facebook removes photos for attacking an individual or group if:
* the photo has been edited to attack an individual or group
This photo has definitely been edited, and In my opinion this is an attack. I don't know if it fits the definition of 'attack' for Facebook's purposes, but if enough of us report it and make a fuss they might be forced to remove it if it doesn't. I urge all those who have a Facebook account to visit this page and report this horrible image for removal:
Link: http://www.facebook.com/...
I won't post the image here ... it's just wrong....
This kind of shit cannot be let go. Please report it to Facebook.
How do you "report" on facebook?
You have to be logged in as a member and you will see a link under the image and to the right to 'Report Image'.
Thanks for your time
UPDATE: Thanks all for the reports to Facebook...
For those who wish to contact the Chief Exec of Facebook, gooderservice was kind enough to post the following below:
http://www.facebook.com/...
At the top of the above page is a link to:
Send Mark Zuckerberg a Message
**You have to be a member of Facebook and logged in to send him a message.
As is the case with most online 'companies' I could not find any direct link to contact someone that does not require being logged in. I will gladly post it should someone find it.
UPDATE 2: It seems that my asking people to help get this offensive image removed has ignited the 'Free Speech' and 'Censorship' crowd...
For the record, I wouldn't turn the other cheek if some jackass at work told a racist joke either.
This is not a play on freedom of speech -- Facebook is a privately owned company with a Terms of Service.
This is attack done out of hatred and it violates Facebook's TOS as I understand them. And as long as Facebook has a means to report offensive images that have been edited to attack an individual or group I think it right to report it (for those who wish to).
We can't fight this crap everywhere it lives, but we can do small things to fight it within the means provided when we have the opportunity to.
UPDATE 3: Looks like Facebook held to their terms!
Thank You all who helped, and all who continue to do what needs doing.
