"I look around me and see many groups that have a common objective--to remake America. They want to turn America into something else." Recently, I saw this statement in a right-wing blog referring to those "horrible" left-wing blogs and organizations. I wrote in response that he is absolutely right. This is exactly what we on the left want to do. And I told this blogger what this is called--"politics." It is when people who have a common interest and world view get together to gain control of a government (through democratic and constitutional means) to change things.
It is really unbelievable that O'Reilly and company are now viewing legitimate political discourse between different organizations that have a common goal to be a "conspiracy." What is being viewed as a conspiracy by the right is the Internet itself. It is the ability of people through Web 2.0 to form communities, sometimes public, sometimes private, to share ideas and yes, to develop strategies to create political change and toe foster advocacy. In case those on the right do not realize it, this is called democracy.
But now that the right has the short end of the stick, they again are trying to trick people. They are trying to describe democracy in such a way that some evil is taking place. Their biggest fear is that we may be successful in creating, finally, a social-democratic safety net that the American people will want to maintain. Their way was tried and failed and now it is our turn with the support of a center-left government.
Read their blogs and you will see something interesting--people who do not believe in the democratic process. When we wanted to stop Bush, those on the left were advocating for impeachment. Now those on the right have a different idea. They want to violently overthrow the American government, such as Chuck Norris who wants to become President of the independent State of Texas and secede from the union. I sent him an email and said to him that his idea is not very original because it was done before and I could guarantee that the result would be the same. It is interesting that for years those of the right have been calling those on the left the party of treason. Well folks here is someone talking real treason. And yes, as someone who believes in the constitution, Mr. Norris should suffer the consequences of treason--a firing squad--after a fair trial by a jury of his peers. The constitution is the rule book as how this country should be run and those who refuse to play by the rules should be taken out of the game. And as for people of the left advocating together in concert--that is playing by the rules.
