if anyone thought that losing the popular vote, losing the electoral vote, congress' certifying the vote, the supreme court's swearing-in of the president-elect and the dismissal of every case lucky enough to make it into a courtroom would shut the birthers up, well ... we are talking about folks who believe a losing strategy has to work if you just scream louder the next time.
it was an increasingly strident and futile month for the birthers. in like a loon, out like a lamb, as the saying goes ...
item: a retired dc lawyer served as a clown car for carpetbagging erstwhile 9-11 truther phil berg, who carted out retired serviceman greg hollister, demanding proof that he's obligated to serve obama. the clown car burst into flames on ignition. the passengers were dead on arrival, according to the grisly autopsy report. dismissed with reprimand.
item: perennial loser alan keyes lost his bid to subpoena obama's college records and his case against the california secretary of state was tossed out of court.
item: two indiana chuckleheads faileth to understandeth why their faux colonial-slash-victorian debate style faileth to prevaileth, even while eliciting agreeable "chuckles" from the members of the court.
item: freshman congressman bill posey (r-fl) introduced birther bill h.r. 1503, to require all prospective presidential candidates to submit their birth certificates before getting placed on the ballot. to posey's chagrin, much hilarity ensued. unsurprisingly, no offers of co-sponsorship have been forthcoming from his colleagues.
item: tireless peroxide-fueled birther joan-of-arc orly taitz took supreme court case filing to a new level by:
- stalking justice antonin scalia at his book signing and demanding an explanation for her rejected cases
- stalking chief justice john roberts at a college lecture to personally "file" with him her rejected cases, her manifesto and a suitcase of "evidence" and petitions. she is told to "talk to the hand".
- accusing a court clerk of sabotaging her rejected cases and unleashing outraged birthers against him
- participating in a "common law citizens grand jury", which not surprisingly unanimously "indicted" obama for multiple crimes
item: a new birther "documentary" is in the making: "barack obama v. the law". starring usurper chasers such as orly taitz and mario apuzzo and produced by evil conservative radio and new media alliance television, it's expected to have, without breaking a sweat, more laughs than "the ½-hour news hour".
the following two charts document the progress (or lack thereof) of the birther movement to date. the first is largely lifted from dr. conspiracy's ongoing obama conspiracy theories docket project, in which he hopes to catalogue all "lawsuits against barack obama or others alleging conspiracies about obama". the second chart is of my own making, a catalogue of eligibility bills introduced to various legislatures.
thus far the number lawsuits is up to 45, with 34 denials or dismissals, and there have been 6 bills proposed, with 2 of them now dead. and contrary to what patriotic usurper-hating certifigaters want to tell themselves, successfully filing a application or proposing a bill doesn't count as a win. they remain ever determined, however, to get their big vindicating victory anywhere they can find it, even if they have to roll their own.
