The Food & Drug Administration is, thankfully, now in charge of regulating tobacco products. While they cannot ban the product, they can take some long awaited action.
Now is the time to free the millions of helpless addicts across our nation, and pass a law providing the right for anyone in any state to smoke tobacco. All they need to do is get their doctor to write them a prescription stating that they have a genuine medical need to use tobacco. Then they can go to a "Marlboro clinic" and get the drugs they need.
This will end the stigma that so many tobacco users feel. Now, they can hold their heads high and say, "I'm not just a smoker! I'm an addict and I need help!"
The Marlboro clinics can also help these poor souls by handing out free patches to help break their dependency, leading them to become productive members of our society free from the shackles of addiction.
Of course, I'm not sure what the AMA might do to a doctor who actually wrote one of those prescriptions... And I'm sure the GOP wouldn't support such a blatant social-engineering approach for such an evil drug.
Only time will tell...
