You might be confusing tyranny with losing.
According to the right wing talking heads and more batshit crazy members of the Republican Party (R-MN), we are on the road to some insidious tyrannical, socialist, rule by a despotic leader of unimagined evilitry. So leave it to Jon Stewart to give the most basic of civics lessons to the unintelligentsia on the right:
A brief synopsis if I may...
After a collection of clips from the nut house proclaiming that the US is on the road to ruin and despotism and Obama is taking us there...
(Update: Thanks to blueyescryinintherain for the partial transcript of commentary:
Mark Levin - "There's a road to tyranny and I believe we're headed on that road"
Glenn Beck - "Fascism is coming"
Knucklehead McSpasatron #1 - "Intimidation is yet another part of the slow erosion of our liberties"
Mark Levin - "They want the population to surrender their liberties to the government"
Knucklehead McSpasatron #2 - "You're in very dangerous waters to the freedoms that exist in this country"
Glenn Beck - "...they're controlling your life"
...we are treated to a clip of Andrew Breitbart proclaiming that his child's school has replaced St. Patrick's Day with Potato Day and he seems to blame....Obama. Jon strikes a disbelieving note to all of this:
So, government is taking over our schools, our corporations, our healthcare, our personal liberties. Scary. And while President Bush was the one who started the bailout, nationalized insurance companies, added $17 trillion drug entitlement program had a governement mandated public school initiative literally titled "No Child Left Behind", wiretapped citizens without warrants, created secret internment camps in international waters beyond the reach of our justice system, allowed his Vice President to live in a nether world that exists between executive and legislative branch, where his house did not exist on Google Earth, only now with the advent of Potato Day has tyranny come to our shores.
But it is after Sean Hannity decides to join Michelle Bachman in the fight afgainst tyrrany:
Yes, tyrrany. Otherwise known as our democratically elected President...I think you might be confusing tyranny with losing. And I feel for ya, because I've been there. Afew times, in fact one was a bit of a nailbiter. But see, when the guy that you disagree with gets elected he's probably going to do things you disagree with. He could cut taxes on the wealthy, remove government's oversight capability, invade a country that you thought should not be invaded, that's not tyranny, that's Democracy. See no you're in the minority. It's supposed to taste like a sh*% taco. And by the way, if I remember correctly, when disagreement was expressed about that President's actions when y'all were in power I believe the response was "Why do you hate America?", "Watch what you say", "Love it or leave it", "Suck on my truck nuts"...
Leave it to the "fake" news anchor to call out the "real" news on their hypocrisy and their idiocy. While it is nice to be able to laugh at these idiots and thier hypocrisy, it is also scary the way they foment anger and hatred. These folks need to be called out over and over again and not just by the Jon Stewarts and Stephen Colbert's. Not just on Daily Kos and Talking Points Memo. These morons need to be abused for the cranks that they are by Time Magazine and the New York TImes and ABC News and the rest of the MSM. The failure isn't that Fox News and Rush Limbaugh are hateful jackasses, it is that they are given mainstream credibility. The tragedy behind the laughter is that The Daily Show is doing the MSM's job.
There is a bit of the sad clown about Jon Stewart. Not necessarily himself, per se, but there is the underlying idea that we are laughing only to keep ourselves from crying.
