Each week the Chicago Sun Times highlights an area High School in its sports section. The paper picks a school and points out its student athletes and their accomplishments.
It also features a section about Notable Alumni and one in particular in picked out to write a piece called What Schaumburg means to me. The school picked this week is the Schaumburg High School Saxons. The featured alumni is Mark Pancratz who is apparently the assistant coach of the University of Tennessee mens basketball team.
But there is a separate section called Notable Alumni and you will never guess who is listed there. Well, let me tell you then.
- Markos Zuniga: Founder and primary author of the Daily Kos political blog.
Whoa nelly. The great orange satan, leftist conspirator, fearless leader and all around trouble maker Markos making the list of distinguished alumni from the Schaumburg High School Fighting Saxons. Talk about big time.
Well, wait a minute. Before Kos gets too full of himself, lets take a look at the "other" distinguished alum that made the list.
- Paul Justin, former NFL Quarterback.
Journeymen qb never did much.
- Kurt Kittner, former Illini Quarterback and NFL backup.
See above.
- Nadia Geller, Interior designer and television personality on HGTV.
Wow, thats impressive. Never heard of her but I never watch HGTV.
- Mike Carden, guitarist for band 'The Academy Is...'
Huh? Must be underground band, way underground.
- Kathy Larson, NASA shuttle flight director.
Really scraping the barrel now.
- Nate Llerandi, 1993 Chicago Triathlon winner, cyclist and author.
1993? Never heard of him.
- Susan (Levin) Downey, film producer, 1991 valedictorian and wife of Robert Downey, Jr.
Hey, thats pretty cool. Took a good midwestern girl to straighten out old Bob.
Well there you have it. Markos made the list but not the most impressive list, kind of like saying you are the toughest guy at the nursing home.
Seriously, congrats Kos and no disrespect to the other distinguished alum. I'm sure Kos can now relive those glory days at Schaumburg High with a spring in his step now that his is distinguished.
