Twitter is the website of 140 characters. Not only is it an awesome waste of time, it can also be used for political purposes.
Imagine how much quicker we could get information if it was tweeted out? Messages to all your friends to canvass, to vote in an election, or to check out a cool diary on Daily Kos.
I am working on a project for the Northwest Progressive Institute (NPI) to collect Twitter usernames of progressive activists in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Our goal is to mix Twitter microfeeds together to capture what activists across the Northwest are saying and doing.
For those unfamiliar with us, the Northwest Progressive Institute is a netroots powered strategy center working to advance the common good through ideas and action. A few of our projects include Pacific NW Portal, The Reichert Report, Permanent Defense, and our blog, The NPI Advocate.
Pacific NW Portal is a one stop shop for blogs throughout the Northwest with links to blogs in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.
The Reichert Report follows the voting record of Republican Congressman Dave Reichert (WA-08).
Permanent Defense serves as the first line of defense against right wing initiatives, such as those sponsored by Tim Eyman.
The Advocate is authored by the staff of NPI, offering daily political analysis and commentary.
NPI's Twitter feed (nwprogressive) publishes announcemements about our work.
My personal twitter account is progressive_dan.
Again, if you're on Twitter and you reside in the Pacific NW, we want to hear from you! Please leave a comment with a link to your Twitter username, or let us know what it is by sending a message to tips (at) nwprogressive (dot) org. Thanks! I'll post again in the future with a link to the results of this little project when we're all finished.
