Rachel Maddow observed with ironic amusement last night that John Bolton had a surprising solution for the piracy problem in Somalia: full-scale military onslaught. The idiocy begins at 4:10.

Can we please make the stupid stop now? I hardly heard mention of WHY John Bolton assumes it's USA's responsibility to invade Somalia over this problem.
I understand there are the occasional American lives at risk. And not to sound cold, but the sailors are aware when they sign up for these routes they are taking their chances. Rachel Maddow earlier reported Captain Shane Murphy's lengthy discussions with his father about the high probability of his encountering pirates during this mission.
Fishing expeditions in AK can pay huge sums of money. Why? Because they're dangerous and the profit margin supports it.
Is this largely not private treasure at risk? Why are these billionaire shipping aristocrats not calling up Blackwater nee, XE, if they cannot secure their own treasure?
Truth is, the pirates by targeting American ship, and now, with some supposed pirate acting a spokes person, declaring war on the US, are playing directly into the neocon's war agenda. And a certain faction of the American public are happy to play right not into Bolton's saber rattling, because--goll-durn it!--they're f-ing with Amurika!!
And last I heard, weren't there astonishing profits to be made in the shipping biz? If these companies really need to take these routes, can't they police their own damn selves?
Getting our military involved is just another example of socializing risk while privatizing profits. Just my 2 cents.
