This isn't about politics, but since so many of us are huge fans of Keith Olbermann, I thought I'd share this with all of you.
Major League Baseball announced today that Keith has just been hired by them as a columnist for MLB.com
Keith's first official column is here, but he had maintained a blog on MLB's server for a couple of months.
Congrats to Keith on the new gig. MLB.com actually does a good job of getting quality content on their site (with writers for all 30 teams) and is obviously pretty widely read.
Long before Olbermann saved the democracy on Countdown, it was his love of baseball and great sportscasting where many of us first started liking him. It's great he's going to be writing about baseball regularly. My favorite part of his column today was the anecdote at the end:
FAN OF THE DAY:
Hats off to Ben Erdel. As part of his big night at Yankee Stadium last night, Brett Gardner let one of his Louisville Sluggers fly into the stands. Mr. Erdel and a much younger gentleman both had their hands on the rare souvenir -- although only the younger gentleman had just managed to avoid getting hit with the helicoptering bat. Mr. Erdel took the bat, took a few steps, and then thought better of it, and generously did the right thing.
The younger gentleman now has a singular thrill from his first Yankee homestand, exceeding his previous one -- being my nephew.
Keith is also donating his entire salary from MLB.com to three different charities, and, according to the press relase: "He also is the first national journalist hired as part of MLBAM's digital newspaper initiative, currently scheduled for a May launch."
Congrats Keith!
