When Ohio went for Obama in November, it felt like a new day had dawned for me. I was tired of everyone ripping apart my home state for its questionable political choices, and I felt redeemed! "Finally," I thought, "Ohio will be left alone. We're a blue state now!"
Unfortunately, I forgot to take into account that, even though Ohio is a blue state, there are still people here with opposing, somewhat unhinged views...
"I’ll let Warren County go broke before taking any of Obama’s filthy money," County Commissioner Mike Kilburn said.
Filthy money?! Madness continues below the fold.
Warren County, Ohio is one of the fastest growing counties in the United States. It sits just south of Dayton, on the I-75 corridor between Dayton and Cincinnati. It is primarily made up of affluent people - median home value in 2008 was $201,853. Link Coincidentally or not, Warren County is also heavily Republican, which brings us back to our Commissioner Kilburn.
Commissioners rejected $373,000 in stimulus money to buy three new transit buses and upgrade their fleet, citing their opposition of deficit spending for buses and vans.
Commissioner Mike Kilburn said he refuses to take any stimulus funds.
"I’ll let Warren County go broke before taking any of Obama’s filthy money," Kilburn said.
When asked about stimulus money being used to help improve rural transportation and job creation, Kilburn said he was tired of government handouts.
"I’m tired of paying for people who don’t have," he said. "As Reagan said, ‘government is not the answer, it’s the problem.’"
And who would be using the new buses and vans? Some people who could really use them...
These funds would be used to improve transportation for disabled people, seniors and others needing access to health care and educational opportunities.
You know, I try to keep an open mind, but I just don't understand how some of these people think. Does this guy want to be re-elected? How can people be so, for lack of a better word, delusional?

If you're as mad as I was after reading this story, you can contact Commissioner Kilburn's office here.
I also saw as I was composing this that apparently KO has picked the story up - woo hoo Keith! If this is old news, I'll delete.
