If you like, you can see my first diary, and second diary to catch up.
My day today was spent mostly doing paperwork (tax stuff) which is just so exciting. So you know we are not some big time NGO with fancy digs and such, this is the 'garden' of Afghans4Tomorrow's guesthouse:
As I was writing this it came to my attention that our forces bombed another village while going after some Taliban and possibly killed 100 civilians. I need to vent a bit.....
I thought Obama was going to do things differently.
Does he and our military honestly think we can bomb the Taliban away? Every time we have an attack like this, we create more enemies, not eliminate them. I am so angry with Obama right now, and the Pentagon, I could scream.
I wonder if I will wake up tomorrow and find the streets of Kabul awash in protesters? I would sure as hell be out there protesting if another nation was bombing our cities to go after a few thugs.
I ASSURE you that the vast majority of Afghans HATE the Taliban. If our troops spent time training theirs along with their police force they could get rid of the Taliban and our troops could come home!
The Afghans beat the Brits twice, they beat the Soviets. They sure as hell can get rid of the Taliban if they just had the training and equipment.
I read some comments on the NY Times site in regards to this bombing and became sick to my stomach. I am so sad that so many Americans feel an Afghan life is worthless or worth less than a life of an American. The Afghans are not fighting us, the Taliban are. Yes, some are Afghan, but they are a minority. Most join for the money and would rather be working in a factory or a shop or be taught a trade.
Our tax dollars should go to reconstruction and education, that will create jobs and eliminate all the 'part time' Taliban. (those who join simply to get paid so they can feed their family). This would also show the world, and especially the Muslim world that we have a desire to help them, not kill off entire villages.
I think that would protect the world from the extremists more than all the bombs we can make and drop.
I need to calm down here, it is getting late and it is going to take me awhile to chill enough to fall asleep. They get up early here!
Thanks for listening folks, feel free to ask questions. I will stay up a bit to answer some, and answer more when I wake up. It will be evening there when I do.
Khoda Hafez (good bye)
