Sorry, but this sucks. Totally. After announcing that they will not prosecute low level war crime suspects, the Obama administration now changes direction and decided that they will block the publication of photographs showing the abuse of prisoners by US soldiers.
From the link above:
White House officials said Mr Obama did not feel comfortable with the release of the photographs because he believed their release would endanger US troops, and because the national security implications of such a release had not been fully presented to the court.
Translation: Obama is capitulating to right-wingers. And here are a few simple questions: Why is Bushs' secretary of defense, Gates, still secretary of defense? Why are we still in Iraq?
I have given money to the Obama campaign and supported him anyway I could. I want him to succeed. But it is now becoming obvious that he can not bring real change. He either does not have the power or the willingness to do so.
UPDATE: I just wanted to make one more point: Obama should have fired Gates from day 1. Why keep Bush's secretary of defense? What kind of change is this? In my opinion, Obama simply realized himself that he does not have the power to make REAL changes in our foreign policy. He is in a way hostage to the warmongers. That is the only reason he kept Gates. I really hope that he will be able to do something good at the end. But I am no longer optimistic.
