If you are a newbie on here, I bet you are wondering why people get so freaked about about the pootie diaries, pro or con. I already discussed why the pootie diaries matter, in an earlier entry.
Well, he's my two cents on the matter.
I, like you, have wondered why people here have violent feelings about the pootie diaries: there are those who will fight (and HR mean comments) to the end, versus those who feel they have to make a mean comment about pooties every single time a pootie diary is posted, and get HR'd to the nines.
In the beginning, I hated the pootie diaries. But now? Well, I welcome them, now.
Why is this?
Every time I find myself reacting strongly to a thing, I always stop and wonder why I feel so strongly about it; and I have come to the realization that whenever I feel such a way, it has more to do with me, than the topic at large.
I have realized over the last few days and weeks that the reason I reacted so strongly against the cat diaries was because I had a prejudice. I realized this when I remembered that there were a couple people in my life whom I've had argued with, and they happened to be what you would call "cat people", people who have kitty posters on their walls, kitty calendars, what have you. And I realized that the reason I started hating cat diaries was because the posters of such diaries reminded me of these other people with whom I'd had an issue with, and because of this I started assuming that anybody who loved cats was just a messed up and lame the type of person, like the type of people I happened to have had arguments with, back in the day.
Well, I was wrong. Because it seems to me that the majority of people here who post (and love) the pootie diaries are really good people; and it has made me re-asses my own prejudices against the pooties, such that I actually now welcome the pootie diaries that come up on this place, since I know they are posted by, and are commented on by really good people here, whom I've learned to trust.
However, I have also noticed that people tend to react strongly about cats; there are those who love them in a flag-waving way, and then again there are those who hate cats so much that they come on to the pootie diaries and post hateful things, just to piss the cat lovers off.
Why do cats seem to inspire such intense reactions? It seems to me that intense cat love/hate is of the ages, whether you are talking about Ancient Egypt (pro-cat) or the Middle Ages (anti-cat). I would really love to know what your guys' thoughts are about this. Pro or con. However, if you are con, please try to be polite about it, and thoughtful. Don't just say "Cats suck" and post a picture of a dead cat, tell me WHY you hate cats, okay? I bet it has more to do with you, than about cats, or pootie posters, in general.
