I was very moved today as our new Supreme Court Nominee Sonia Sotomayor spoke about her mother Celina. This is a woman who lost her husband and worked two jobs in order to raise her children in the projects of New York. Sounds like she had quite the commitment to education and has lived to see one of her children become a doctor and the other nominated to the Supreme Court. The woman deserves to be proud!!!!
It all reminded me of a poem written and recited a couple of weeks ago by Mayda del Valle at the White House Poetry Jam. It was written about Mayda's grandmother, Segunda, who died in Puerto Rico when she was a child. So in gratitude to these Puerto Rican mothers and grandmothers, here is A Faith Like Yours.
