From his post in a tall guard tower somewhere in southern Arizona, former draft dodger representative Tom Tancredo(Bigot R-CO) has issued a research paper created at Stanford University's phallic learned Hoover Sucks Institution. The conclusion: Ricardo Montalban's advertising campaign initiated the decline and fall of Chrysler Corporation.
Mark Krikorian (kri-KOR'-ee-uhn), an advocate of tougher immigration standards and a contributor to the conservative National Review, said
putting the emphasis on the last syllable in Montalban is an "unnatural pronunciation" in English.
In an online post, he said there "ought to be limits" to the inclination to defer to how people pronounce names.
"Insisting on an unnatural pronunciation is something we shouldn't be giving in to," he wrote. ..."There are basically two options — Richard Montalban adapts to us, or we adapt to Ricardo Montalban. And multiculturalism means there's a lot more of the latter going on than there should be."
Tancredo, when asked why an advertising campaign in 1975 could have caused bankruptcy in 2009, replied:
If you will recall, in a May 3, 2007 debate among the ten candidates for the 2008 Republican Presidential nomination, I was one of three who raised their hands when asked if anyone did not believe in the theory of evolution.
To support his contention, Tancredo released an ad called "Tough on Montalban" in which a hypothetical bankruptcy occurs in a shopping mall. The ad blames inept border security for the bankruptcy and flashes images of an injured child and a wrecked train. A voiceover comments,
"There are consequences from Chrysler commercials beyond the 20 million aliens who have come to take our jobs ... the price we pay for spineless politicians who refuse to defend our borders against those who come to advocate soft Corinthian leather."
According to Tancredo,
he and Bush's political adviser, Karl Rove, got into a "screaming match" after Tancredo claimed that "if the nation suffered another ad campaign at the hands of Montalban, the blood of the bankruptcies" would be on Bush's and Congress’ hands. Rove responded by calling Tancredo "a traitor to the party" and "a traitor to the president," and warned him to never "darken the doorstep of the White House."
Tancredo proposed that America respond to any future Montalban ad campaigns by bombing Mexico City. John Podhoretz, writing on the National Review's website, said:
"Tom Tancredo is an idiot."
